When someone opens your fundraising page, they decide in a few seconds whether to give. The goal amount matters. The photos matter. But the thing that moves people most is the story.
The good news is that you don’t need to be a writer. You just need to tell the truth, simply and from the heart. Here’s an easy formula that works for teams, families and causes of every kind.
1. Start with who it’s for
Lead with a person or a group your supporters can picture. A name and a face beat a mission statement every time.
Instead of:
“We are raising funds for our athletic program.”
Try:
“This is Penny. She’s 9, she plays defense for the Coyotes, and she’s never missed a practice.”
Right away, people care.
2. Explain what the money is for
Be specific. People give more confidently when they know exactly where their money goes.
“We’re raising $2,500 to cover tournament fees, new uniforms and travel to the state championship in March.”
Vague goals feel risky. Specific goals feel real.
3. Say why it matters
This is the heart of your story. What will this make possible? What happens if you reach your goal?
“For many of these girls, this will be the first time they’ve ever traveled to compete. It’s a chance to show what all those early-morning practices were for.”
One or two honest sentences are enough. You don’t need to be dramatic. You need to be real.
4. Add great photos
Photos do half the storytelling for you. The best ones are:
- Action shots: kids playing, performing or competing
- Team or group photos with smiling faces
- Bright and clear: natural light, not dark or blurry
Skip the formal portraits if you have something more candid. A muddy, grinning kid after a game beats a posed picture every time.
5. End with a simple ask
Close by telling people exactly how they can help, and that every gift counts:
“Any amount helps, whether it’s $10 or $100. And if you can’t give right now, sharing this page means just as much. Thank you for cheering us on!”
Keep it short
The best fundraising stories are three to five short paragraphs. Most people read on their phones, so long blocks of text get skipped. If you can say it in fewer words, do.
A quick checklist
Before you share your page, ask yourself:
- ✅ Did I say who this is for?
- ✅ Did I say what the money will pay for?
- ✅ Did I say why it matters?
- ✅ Do I have at least one great photo?
- ✅ Did I end with a clear, friendly ask?
If you checked all five, you’re ready.
We’ll help you polish it
When you create a campaign with Achieve Our Goals, just tell us your story in your own words. It doesn’t have to be perfect. We’ll shape it into a fundraising page that’s clear, warm and ready to share, usually the same day.
And remember, 100% of what you raise goes to your cause.
